The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were developed by the United Nations with 193 countries as signatories to work towards achieving these goals by the year 2030. These goals are “a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity” (UNDP, 2016) Businesses across sectors are integral to the achievement of the SDGs. Through corporate social responsibility (CSR), community impact projects and socially responsible investment initiatives, businesses are providing unique solutions to social and environmental problems.

According to a recent report from Aflac on Corporate Social Responsibility, it finds that 77% of consumers say they would be more willing to purchase a company’s products or services if the company demonstrates a commitment to addressing social, economic and environmental issues; 73% of investors agreed.
