Southern Border and links to terrorism… Catalog Description: This course investigates the context, causes, correlates, and consequences of the crime of terrorism from a broad range of academic perspectives. The individual, group, and organizational factors that motivate international and domestic terrorist groups to action will be covered, in addition to common strategies designed to reduce the threat of terrorism and mitigate its effects on society. An interdisciplinary course, CJ350 references the distinct fields of history, political science, international studies, sociology, criminology, criminal justice, human services, and victimology.

This course will introduce students to the phenomena of contemporary terrorism and extremism. Emphasis will be placed on extremism as a foundation for terrorist behavior, types of terrorism, and how governments and law enforcement agencies respond to terrorism. In light of domestic terrorist incidents in Oklahoma City, on September 11, 2001, and as well as domestic hate crimes, the course will also weave a thread of extremist literature and perspectives throughout the semester. The role of law enforcement and other public administrative agencies will be highlighted.
