Performance management.

Part 1 of this assignment (due in Week 7) involves choosing an existing journal article, reading it carefully, identifying an important future research direction, and giving some thought to how to write a research proposal that focuses on this particular research direction. Part 2 of the assignment (due in Week 8) involves actually writing the research proposal. Instructions 1. Write a research proposal aimed at addressing the future research avenue you’ve identified. Your research proposal should essentially cover the Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Method, and Results in sections of a journal article. 2. But of course, you haven’t yet conducted the study: rather, you are simply proposing a study.

So, the Abstract, Introduction Method, and Results sections should be worded in the future tense. . In the Abstract, you should summarize the proposed paper as a whole a. In the Introduction section, you should briefly summarize the nature of the problem and why it is important, summarize relevant research (i.e., previous research that leads directly to your own research) and indicate how your own research extends this previous research, logically justify your first hypothesis and then formally state your first hypothesis–and, in case you have more than one hypothesis, logically justify your second hypothesis and then formally state your second hypothesis.

b. In the Method section, you should indicate how much data you plan to collect, from whom, how, and why. o For example, you might use statements like the following: o “I will survey 250 construction workers. I will need 250 employees because…. Construction workers will serve as a good sample because….” o “I will measure counterproductive work behavior–the outcome variable in my study–using Spector et al.’s (2006) measure. This is a good measure to use because….” c. In the Results section, you should indicate which statistical analyses you plan to conduct, and why. • o For example, you might use statements like the following:

 “To give readers an overview of the data, I will create a correlation matrix that contains means, standard deviations, reliability estimates (Cronbach’s alphas), and intercorrelations between variables.”  “My focal analysis will involve a multiple regression equation with counterproductive work behavior as the outcome variable and the employee’s telework status (this is the focal predictor variable) as a predictor along with all six of the HEXACO factors (these are the control variables).” 3. You should model your paper as closely as possible on the original journal article you chose (out of the 3 options provided) and then read last week.

You obviously need to be careful not to plagiarize (so: please be sure to use your own words rather than lifting text without attribution, etc.), but you should nonetheless follow the structure and content of the original journal article as closely as possible. In other words, you should use the structure and content of the original journal article as a guide to your own research proposal. 4. With that said, from the perspective of content, you should also refer to the APA’s Journal Article Reporting Standards (JARS) for Quantitative Papers. The JARS serve as a helpful reminder–essentially, a checklist–for what material should be included in each section of the paper (Introduction, Method, etc.).   https://youtu.be/7CX73qOuIiE
