DISABILITY STUDY Key Assessment Description for SPED 3110 This Key Assessment project constitutes a large portion of your grade in 3110 which is a course you must achieve no lower than a B to progress forward in your program. It is a component of your teacher portfolio for graduation. Students will work independently to develop a paper related to a specific disability. Given your assigned disability category, the following elements must be included: Description, Characteristics, Incidence, Discussion of Disability Impact(s), Instructional implications including assistive technology, and Community Resources.

A 3–5-minute pre-recorded oral presentation presenting your findings will be submitted with your paper. The attached rubric for the Disability Study will be used during assessment. APA – 7the format must be utilized throughout including a cover page, running head, pagination, headings (as needed) citation and reference pages. Person-first language is required. Definition/Characteristics/Incidence The definition, common characteristics, and the typical incidence of the disability in school aged children should be detailed. This section must include general behaviors (academic, social, physical, emotional, behavioral) that a child with this disability might typically exhibit.

Disability Impact(s) A description of the impact the disability has on the student’s learning, family and lifespan. Instructional Implications The specific instructional implications that students with this disability require should be discussed and will include additional aspects such as suggestions for assistive technology, accommodations, modifications and ways students may gain access to the curriculum.
